THE GRID TRANSFER TECHNIQUE - Recreate the abstract image shared with you by graphing the image. Focus on the texture within each abstract square to duplicate the image.
"May the forest be with you"
Reflection:
I made the BIG mistake of pressing too hard while making my grid lines. This was my first time using this method, and I thought as I shaded in the grid that the lines wouldn't show. I tried to erase them after but to no avail. I also struggled with the middle part of the picture (I think I am slightly color blind); it just looked all black with some slight variation. I went back to the original email and viewed it from the computer, which helped me see the picture in more detail. All in all, I can see how using this technique allows artists to focus on detail.

Students will examine their relationship with text, technology and their bodies. Students will be introduced to DADA and Surrealist methods of thinking and creating. The goal of the project is to create works based on theme and concept while exploring alternate mediums and art-making methods.
I really wanted to find exciting backgrounds for these collages, so I went through old children's books and magazines until I found the theme I was looking for. For the Gnarly Dude collage, I thought it would be interesting to draw the background and wanted to give it a futuristic feel with the intention of it feeling very much in the past. I also was mindful of the text and wanted the text to speak to the viewer.
My hope was to create this assignment through the eyes of someone living during each of these periods—sort of an evolution of man and technology. While creating each piece, I kept thinking about how each generation thought/thinks they live during a progressive time. The question I keep asking myself is, in a hundred years, how will people judge technology from my time?
Dada and Surrealism art is highly thought-provoking, and I believe I am hooked.
